Project and Exhibiting space

Located in the centre of Lewes, just off the High St, Continuum has two distinct exhibiting spaces; including a front room available to hire for shows, projects, pop ups and workshops. With an affordable rental and no commission, our aim is to create opportunities for individuals and small groups to explore experimental or less commercial projects, that enrich the creative diversity of the town.

Where Seagulls Cry

Suzanne Hennegrave & Heather Buckley

The exhibition will show artists’ snapshots around the theme. Suzanne Hennegrave will be showing a selection of evocative semi-abstract seascape paintings in oils and sonograms. The work on sonograms, which interested her because of the ways they aid conservation efforts, was inspired by painting to the sounds of the seashore with an artist, who has dementia, to help her relax.

Also responding to the show’s theme, talented photographer Heather Buckley will be showing her vibrant, playful street photographs mainly taken in Brighton. These depict everyday life, carnivals and street events.

Young people attending Art Hub Lewes clubs, will also have contributions in the show, including a stop motion film, drawing attention to the plight of migrants, origami boats to raise money for the RNLI and a slide show of their paintings.

The show runs from Monday 25th - Sunday 31st August 11am - 4pm

Artwave 2025 - A Shelter for Wonder

Inspired by the makeshift dwellings that emerged across America during the 1930’s Depression and named Hoovervilles, we have created A Shelter for Wonder with wood found on the streets of Lewes. The space within a space. contains a tiny wunderkammer celebrating the presence of wonder in the everyday.

In the front room there will be a chance to see new Resonance paintings by Marco Crivello, new sculptures by Jacob Crivello and another chance to see Stitching Older Voices Sonias Crivello’s installation of handkerchiefs documenting the reflections of the oldest old, living in Lewes, on the process of ageing.

If you missed Chris Drury’s book launch and exhibition earlier this year at continuum we will have signed copies of Heart Soul Mind a wonderful career retrospective for sale during Artwave.

We are Venue 123 - open 11am - 4pm 6th 7th 13th 14th 20th 21st September - other times by appointment
