A Shelter for Hope

For Artwave 2026 our Shelter for Wonder became A Shelter for Hope welcoming 22 year old Palestinian artist Nada Rajab. and her project Art from Rubble. Despite successive family displacements, Nada found herself called to offer art projects to children traumatised by war

in her own words:

In the middle of all that, I began my experience with the Art from the Rubble project, under the sponsorship of The Hands Up Project. I cannot describe the joy I felt when I first started mapping out the plan. I began drafting the project in August 2025, held my first preparatory sessions in September, and then launched into activities with the children. By January 3rd, 2026, we had surpassed 40* activities, and that, to me, is the most extraordinary thing that has ever happened. This project transformed my life. From that moment on, I began using art as spiritual medicine, for myself and for my students, to heal the wounds this war left on all of us.

Art from the Rubble has been the most challenging, most joyful, most meaningful experience of my life, and it is still going.

*Nada has continued delivering projects in Gaza , at the time of this exhibition She has completed 67 projects, most recently travelling from northern Gaza to southern Gaza to continue mentoring  students she worked with in displacement camps.

Included in the shelter is an image shared by photojournalist Mustafa Salah. showing a dwelling built by construction worker Alaa Jouda on the ruins of his family’s home. Mustafa has documented events inside Gaza since 2011 and continues to document the day to day lives of Palestinians.
